Frequently Asked Questions
What is Incontinence?
Incontinence is the inability to control either urine or fecal
elimination. Essentially this means that to some degree you may
lose urine or bowel movements at times that you do not choose to
do so.
There are four
basic types of Urinary incontinence:
Stress
Incontinence: an involuntary loss of small amounts of
urine when you cough, laugh, lift or exercise. It can be caused
by multiple vaginal births, enlarged prostate, pelvic trauma or
loss of pelvic muscle tone.
Urge
Incontinence: inability to control urinating once you
feel the need to void. Simply, you may feel the need to urinate
but cannot wait to get to the bathroom. It can be caused by
Alzheimer's, Parkinsonism, enlarged prostate, spinal cord
injuries or urinary tract infections.
Reflex
Incontinence: This is frequent loss of urine with no
warning. This is due to spinal cord injuries, brain tumors or
strokes.
Overflow
Incontinence: Leakage of urine when the bladder is
full. For example the person experiences dribbling, frequency,
urgency and bladder distention. It is most commonly caused by
diseases that cause a blockage of the natural passage way of
urine.
Bowel incontinence
is the inability to contain or "hold" a bowel movement. It can
be caused by being constipated often and for long periods, or on
the opposite end of the spectrum by severe or long-term
diarrhea.
Is Incontinence a
normal part of getting older?
No, it is not. It does effect a large percentage of the senior
population but the causes should be identified by your doctor.
Incontinence is NOT a disease, it is a symptom, but it can be
treated once the causes are determined. If you are experiencing
any type of incontinence you should see your doctor, there is a
good chance you can be helped with this problem.
How often is normal for urinating
or having a bowel movement?
Keep in mind that humans come in an infinite variety so there is
no one right answer. However there are basic guidelines. Most
people urinate four to eight times per twenty four-hour period.
Getting up once a night is normal, if you are getting up more
than twice per night you should see your doctor. Most people
have a bowel movement anywhere between three times per day to
three times per week.
What are some things
I can do to avoid incontinence?
Always be sure to drink enough liquid. People may think that if
they feel as though they need to urinate often they should cut
back on liquids. It is just the opposite. You need to keep
enough fluid in your system to keep it running smoothly, at
least 3-4 pints per day. Do not try to force yourself to go to
the bathroom (due to convenience) but do go when you need to. Be
sure to get enough fiber in your diet to keep your bowels in
good working order.
If I am experiencing
some type of incontinence are there products that can help me
deal with this problem?
Although some causes of incontinence are treated very
effectively with surgery, it is not the only answer. Some types
of incontinence respond well to simple exercise techniques.
There are medications that can help some types of incontinence.
There are other techniques like "bladder or bowel training" that
help you learn new ways of controlling urination or bowel
movements. The first step is to find out why you have the
problem and then discuss the best treatment options with your
doctor.

How do I know which
size brief will fit me?
Lynncore.com Products is the only manufacturer in the industry
with six sizes of adult briefs! Finding your correct size is as
easy as 1-2-3.
1. |
Measure
the hips or waist, whatever is larger. Measure hipbone
to hipbone and over the stomach. |
2. |
After
obtaining the hipbone to hipbone measurement, double the
measurement and add two inches.
Example: |
|
Hipbone to hipbone = 22" |
|
22" X 2 = 44" + 2" = 46" |
|
46" measures into a large brief |
|
3. |
Sizes of
briefs
Youth = 15" - 22" (White)
Small = 20" - 31" (Green)
Medium = 32" - 44" (White)
Regular = 40" - 48" (Lavender)
Large = 45" - 58" (Blue)
X-Large = 59" - 64" (Beige) |
What if I am larger
than the X-Large size?
You should look into our Pant Liners, they have a full-length
adhesive strip and can be worn inside your own underwear. Or you
can purchase Snap Pants or Mesh Pants from a Medical Supply
Store. We make a variety of Pant Liners from very small ones for
light stress incontinence or "dribbling", to large super
absorbent overnight type products.
How do I put on a
Lynncore.com Brief?
AGAIN IT IS AS EASY AS 1-2-3!
1. |
Brief
Positioning
Position the brief so that the top tape tabs are lined
up with your hipbones. |
2. |
Tug
Technique
Fold the wings of the front panel back to bring the leg
cuffs outward. Pull the panel up snug between the legs
until the leg elastic is resting in the crease of the
groin area. This will prevent leaking and redness in the
inner groin area. |
3. |
Tape Tabs
Always fasten the bottom tape tabs first on an upward
angle. This will form a secure seal around the buttocks.
Fasten the top tabs on a downward angle. |
